Creative Approaches for Supporting Ukrainian Youth in Wartime
Using the work of the Vela Project as a case example, this presentation will provide a theoretical framework that supports the use of creative- and arts-based approaches in school settings to support students and communities impacted by war and/or other disasters. This presentation will integrate the Harvard Program in Refugee Trauma's Healing Environment and Restorative Therapies (H.E.A.R.T.) model and Miller's (2023) 8 Kinds of Hope, introducing participants to the Ecosystem of Healing model. Obejctives: 1. Participants will gain familiarity with the Harvard Healing Environment and Restorative Therapies (H.E.A.R.T.) model. 2. Participants will learn about the creative solutions Ukrainian educators are adopting, to provide students with meaningful and trauma-informed educational experiences during wartime. 3. Participants will learn about the Ecosystem of Healing approach to supporting students and communities impacted by trauma, by engaging in arts-based activities that utilize therapeutic metaphor.
