Breakout Session 1 (9:15)
TBD
As an Academic Coordinator, you’re often the primary staff person managing the bryt classroom and interfacing with students. While mostly focused on academic support, there are also various ways that Academic Coordinators play a therapeutic role in the bryt intervention. In this session we will explore strategies and tools to support student mental health. We will discuss how to create strong routines, expectations and boundaries that set students up for success. We will explore the invaluable impact on youth of relationships with consistent, non-judgmental adults, and identify when situations require the involvement of clinically-trained staff. Objectives: 1. Participants will learn strategies to establish clear boundaries, routines and trauma-informed classroom set-ups. 2. Participants will be able to identify what is within their scope in regards to interactions with students and when it is necessary to involve clinical staff. 3. Participants will understand the impact of positive safe adult relationships for youth and the role of a regulated adult in the student’s ability to learn.
