Beyond the Breaking Point

Building a Thriving School Ecosystem

Our schools, our students, and our staff are stretched to a breaking point. But what if this moment of crisis is also our greatest opportunity for transformation? In this visionary keynote, Dr. Fong Lau-Johnson will guide us on a journey to answer that question, weaving together critical research on the current state of youth mental health while drawing upon her own professional and lived expertise. Through compelling data, she will explore how the pervasive impact of trauma affects everyone in the school building—from the students in our classrooms to the educators who support them. This is not a conversation about surviving, but about building a truly thriving school ecosystem. Dr. Lau-Johnson will provide a practical framework for navigating the path forward, offering strategies that foster both student well-being and staff sustainability during challenging times. This dynamic, customized address will challenge your thinking and equip you to lead the charge in building a future of hope for your community. Objectives: 1. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies to identify when harm has occurred for the students they work with, and how to name and address the harm. 2. Participants will learn evidence-based strategies on how to engage in challenging but important conversations in productive ways to lead towards collaborative change. 3. Participants will learn skills on managing and coping with the impact of stressful and traumatic events that can impact individuals in various ways.
